Social Return Barista Academy
The Zuivere Koffie Barista Academy (SCA certified) doesn’t only train people in prison: we extend our reach beyond prison walls to train people identified as being “at risk of a crime” giving them the skills needed to work in coffee and beyond.
What makes us unique is that we retrain people with a distance to the labor market (e.g. ex-convicts), but also help them to a paid job. Our clients are municipalities, governmental organisations, UWV Werkbedrijven and large corporates that are looking to retrain parts of their staff or would like to hire skilled baristas.
Our course takes place in cohorts and is facilitated by professional barista trainers from Zuivere Koffie and its network of experts. Part theory, part coffee skill training, wraps up with a paid 2-day work assignment in a bar or at an event. Upon completion of the academy, our students get a job interview with a chance to work in coffee either with us or at a company in our partner network.
Our students receive a SCA certificate (Specialty Coffee Association).

Make amazing products
At our energy regenerative roastery, bakery, and tea assembly facilities inside Dutch prisons, our taste experts work alongside prison residents to produce our coffees, teas and sweets. At any given moment, we employ 70 prison residents and teach them the crafts and skills they need to find meaningful employment once they are released from prison. By working with [inmates] in this capacity, we help to boost self-esteem and pride, as well as enhance social skills.

At the Zuivere Koffie Street University we offer various courses to inmates.
From bakery skills to coffee master, barista, and hospitality our courses are designed to not only teach a craft but also gain a wider range of life lessons. Listening, presentation and social skills help our students prepare for a better future and find work when they are released from prison.
Outside - a second chance
Find an honest job
Zuivere Koffie gives (ex-)convicts a second chance in life. We have a proven track record of helping our 'students' find a suitable role for them. Whether it’s in one of our Zuivere Koffie bars or within our wider network of partners, our students get real jobs with real salaries. Of those who complete our program, 85% of them are still out of prison after one year.
